Shawna Tegart

Shawna Tegart wheel throwing

After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2014, Shawna Tegart continues to create works in clay, glass and mixed media. Drawing plays a prominent role in her jewelry, pottery and sculptural works, which are largely inspired by the flora and fauna of the Kootenay region in British Columbia.

The Majority of Shawna's Jewelry is made using Porcelain - a translucent, white clay. This precious material looks beautiful on its own, but makes a luminous canvas for her glazes and imagery. Every piece of wearable art is carefully handcrafted and must go through a long, multi-step process that includes 2-4 kiln firings!

Shawna started working on a part time basis for what was then Bavin Glassworks back in 2013 before graduating from AUArts a year later.  She was already familiar with Bavin Glass as the old Bavin Glass studio was next door to her grandparents house in Windermere in the 1990's.

These days Shawna is the gallery manager at Bavin Studios when she is not in her personal ceramics studio making new creations in porcelain.
